What is JoSAA closing rank?

The closing rank is the rank of the last candidate allotted a seat in a particular institute-branch-category combination in a given round. If your rank is lower (better) than the closing rank, you qualify.

Which JoSAA round cutoff should I use for planning?

Use Round 6 (final) closing rank for conservative planning. Use Round 1 for aspirational targets. The average of Round 1 and Round 6 closing ranks gives a reasonable estimate.
